I admit. Prior to learning about SEO applications and site promotion trade, I thought Google was the best thing ever. I Googled anything from people, to pictures, to articles to weird gadgets and naively trusted the findings. Then I heard about SEO apps and a separate industry specializing in site optimization, and my convictions changed. But even before that, after doing some introspective analysis, I got a feeling that search engines, Google included, know far from all, and pass on to the users a fraction of that.

My Google escapades soon persuaded me that Flikr is a more comprehensive image search source, that with the assistance of RSS I can get great current events stories without having to rummage through Google SERPs (rummaging seems more appropriate than Google search), and human search is better administered by Facebook. It seems like every time I look for obscure gadgets on Google, the results are often messy, to put it kindly. Try Googling for SEO software and other SEO related themes on Google and you are just about prepared to give up your sanity. I mean, seriously, what’s the relationship between SEO applications and online education webpages or Internet casinos? Thanfully, in my frustrations.

So when news of link building software and the whole industry revolving around it entered my modest worldview, my doubts about domains popping up on page one of Google grew exponentially. Do they merit to be there and whose fault is it, Google or webmasters using SEO applications. The ethical dilemma is huge. Do I quit using my SEO google rank checker or do I quit using Google instead? I decided that I can’t boycott Google just yet. At least not till the decent competitor enters the game. For now I will keep juggling between Blekko, Google and the above methods to complement the SERP mess that Google is. And, oh,yes, I will continue playing with my SEO products.

Truth is that SEO products is the reason why folks like myself get found on the net. intelligent as they are, search engine bots are not likely to find some little guy and position his website highly. In this respect, I am a firm advocate of SEO programs and natural search. If it was all about the money, the multinational entities would demolish me before I knew it. And there are hundreds of powerbrands on the Fortune roll! But here is something else that irks me and other check backlinks users, I am sure. There are guys who purchase SEO apps and use them to sell dresseson casino sites and such. What we are left with is litter that not only pervades the web but is also well indexed by Google.

What is the user reaction to this? They search for SEO application reviews and will instead find junk content. They get disenchanted. So much for the “Internet fairness”. Does this imply that SEO application and service industry is harmful? I don’t think so.

The abusers of SEO tools have to stop brutalizing the Web but it’s like ordering hackers to stop cracking the code. The unfortunate side about it is that black hat SEOs are abusing the chance to be seen on the Net that is available to the little dude like myself. For now we just have to treat them. One can only hope that Google will put more emphasis on spotting the schemers abusing SEO tools, and if Google doesn’t, the future Google will.
